Class Letter Spring Term 2010
Welcome back to school after the Christmas holidays. We hope you all had an enjoyable ‘White Christmas’!
Your child will continue to have Numeracy and Literacy homework sent out on a Friday to be returned by the Wednesday. Spellings will also be sent out on Friday to be learnt by the following Friday. Your child will have their reading book changed twice a week if they have completed the book and an adult has signed their reading record. This term we will be learning about the following:
Literacy:
The children will continue to develop their phonics, reading, writing and spellings through the study of traditional stories, information texts, report writing and poetry.
Numeracy:
We will be continuing to develop the areas of counting, partitioning and calculating, number facts, shape, data handling and measures. There will be a heavy focus on using and applying numeracy skills to ‘real life’ numeracy problems.
Science:
This half term we are thinking about different sorts of movement and how to describe these, focusing specifically on pushes and pulls – Year 2 will extend their understanding of how these forces act on objects and how the direction and speed of the movement can be altered. Next half term will see us learning how to sort and use a variety of materials, with the year 2 children developing their knowledge further by looking at how materials can change.
ICT:
Your child will regularly use the school laptops and class computers. In class we will be looking at how toys and other devices can be controlled by instructing them eg a remote controlled toy. They will also use instructional language to guide each other.
Y2 will extend this by controlling a roamer and programming it to move along a route.
Geography:
After half term the Geography will be about our local area.
Music:
Children will be listening to and composing a variety of music using their voices and bodies.
RE:
This terms theme is Jesus and new life. We will spend time learning about Easter.
PE:
Children will be developing their Games, Gymnastic and Dance skills over the coming term – P.E. lessons will now take place on a Thursday and Friday, but please ensure that your child has their kit with them throughout the week.
Art:
In Art, all the children will be investigating sculptures, with a specific emphasis on creating a relief collage. Children will be asked to collect resources to bring into school to help with the creation of their finished piece – these requests will be sent out separately.
DT:
This half term the children will be designing and making a coat for a card doll to wear based on the story of ‘Joseph and his coat.’ If you have any fabric with repeating patterns on at home we would love to show the children to give them some ideas.
PSHE:
This term the focus is on making good choices and how the choices we make can effect family, friends, ourselves and the environment.
French:
Your child will continue to have a weekly French lesson.
Individual Targets
Your child will continue to work towards their individual Numeracy and Literacy targets. Please encourage your child to achieve their targets when completing homework activities.
As ever, if you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to come and see us. Many thanks for your ongoing support and a very Happy New Year!
