Year 6

Class Letter Autumn Term 2009/10

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your children had a lovely summer and that they are returning refreshed and revitalised, ready for the new school year. Miss Moore and I are really looking forward to the year and we’re already off to a great start, they’re delightful.

I have arranged a meeting for 3pm on Thursday 10th September in the Year 6 classroom, where you will be able to meet the Year 6 team and will be able to find out about issues such as homework, the year’s curriculum etc. There will be opportunities for you to ask any questions you may have about school’s policies and clarify any issues you may have

In Literacy I intend to focus on the further development of each child’s comprehension skills. I will level each child’s writing and discuss with them what they need to do to move forwards to the next level. In Numeracy I will continue to help each child to apply their skills and knowledge to all aspects of numeracy. We will spend lots of time focusing on Mental Maths skills as well as place value, fractions, data handling and shape. Ask your child regularly what their targets are, they should be able to tell you!

PE will play a big part of our Year 6 life and during the autumn term we will focus on dance and invasion games. I would appreciate PE kits being in school at all times.

The children are continuing with their French units, this is a wonderfully enriching experience for them.

Attached is a curriculum map of topics that will be taught throughout the year.

Homework
Children will have their planners to organise themselves with. All Homework and reminders will be written into their planners.

Many Thanks

Mrs C Brindle
